What’s Intercultural Week in Ilmenau 2026 (ICW 2026)

The ICW 2026 (Intercultural Week in Ilmenau) is a project of ‘ISWI e.V., a non-profit student association established in 1992, known for organising International Student Week in Ilmenau (ISWI) (more information see below). The main part of the Intercultural Week 2026 will be a German-wide conference for students about Internationalisation and its challenges in the German university landscape. It will take place at the Technical University in Ilmenau from 4th to 7th June 2026.

The participating students will have the opportunity to meet students from all over Germany, from different backgrounds and universities, to exchange best practices, ideas, and ways to tackle these challenges. This exchange and critical analysis of the challenges in university Internationalisation will take place through a series of workshops and group work, each addressing a specific set of challenges. This group work will be accompanied by various lectures that provide an overview of the conference topic. More information about the topic and the group work can be found here.

In addition to these topic-focused events, the conference program will include evening and cultural activities showcasing Ilmenau’s cultural diversity. This will include the intercultural brunch, during which inhabitants of intercultural communities in Ilmenau will showcase food and drinks from their countries for participants and visitors to try. Part of this cultural program will also be the local city festival “Altstadtfest”, which will take place on the same weekend, with multiple music-focused stages and stalls across the whole inner city. What is Initiative Solidarity World Ilmenau (ISWI e.V)?

ISWI e.V. is a non-profit student association established in 1992, inspired by Norway’s International Student Festival in Trondheim (ISfiT). ISWI e.V. aims to provide a voice against social injustice, racism, and intolerance. As well as to promote intercultural tolerance and mutual understanding.

This objective is largely achieved through the biannual student festival, International Student Week in Ilmenau (ISWI), the biggest student festival/conference in Germany. In addition, ISWI e.V. is involved in numerous such projects in and around Ilmenau such as the Refugee Network, and Intercultural Week in Ilmenau.
